A travel and art photographer for 45 years, James places an emphasis of seeing everyday scenes and objects in new and different ways. Over the past couple of years, James has added a new exploration of Photogravure Intaglio Prints into his portfolio.
Photogravure Intaglio Prints are a complex way of producing images based on a style originally developed by Italian, Dutch, and German masters back in the 1500s. James uses modern environmentally friendly materials to transfer a photographic image onto an “engraved” plate. From this, ink is applied to the plate and squeezed through high pressure rollers to create a print on paper. The prints can be further refined by hand coloring. The look is distinctive and reminiscent of past times.
